Choosing the right board
| Board | Typical use |
|---|---|
| E flute | Thin, smooth board for printed mailers and retail boxes |
| B flute | Good puncture resistance and a clean print surface |
| C flute | The most common shipping box board, with good stacking strength |
| BC double wall | Heavy products, long stacking and rough handling |
| 32 ECT / 200# test | Standard single-wall shipping strength |
| 44–48 ECT / 275# test | Heavier loads and higher stacks |
Edge crush test (ECT) measures stacking strength. Burst (#) test measures resistance to punctures and rough handling. We'll recommend the lightest board that protects your product, which keeps both box and freight costs down.
Printing and branding
- Flexo printing in one to several colors, the most economical way to print shipping boxes.
- Digital printing for full-color graphics and short runs with no printing plates.
- Litho-laminated printing for retail boxes and displays with photo-quality graphics.
- Inside printing for an unboxing message your customers see when they open the box.
Right-sized boxes save money
Carriers charge by dimensional weight, so a box that's an inch too big costs money on every shipment. A custom size cuts freight, void fill and packing time, and protects better than a loose stock box.

Custom corrugated box FAQs
What's the minimum order for custom boxes?
It depends on the style, size and printing. Plain and simply printed boxes can be economical in modest quantities, and digital printing makes short printed runs practical. We'll quote several quantities so you can see the price breaks.
How long do custom boxes take?
Lead times depend on the box, the plant and whether it needs new cutting dies or printing plates. Repeat orders are faster. Ask us for current lead times on your box, and consider a stocking program so you're never waiting.
Are there one-time costs for custom boxes?
Die-cut boxes need a cutting die, and printed boxes need printing plates. These are usually one-time costs. Digital printing avoids plate costs.
How do I get a quote?
Use the Box Design Tool, or send us your box size, board, printing, and quantities. If you're not sure, send us the product and we'll recommend a box.
